You may not have the option. Unlike the situation in the US, you cannot insist
on a hand search, i.e. you have no right to make this selection. In some
countries, notably France and The Netherlands, it is usually completely
impossible to avoid ANYTHING from being scanned. Professional photographers
often take the train in France to avoid high speed film being scanned and
ruined.
England is a toss-up. Try asking nicely, don't try to insist, that definitely
won't work!
