Is com 2 working?

I have been unable to get a lap link connection using com 2 with my Thinkpad.
Parallel port connections have been trouble free. Is there any thing special
that I need to do to use com 2. I see that there is a fix for PCMCIA devices
that use com2 just wondering if I missed something.
