i just picked up a $5 microphone from Radio Shack, plugged it into my
thinkpad 750C, and it works fine with Internet Phone (ie the one from VocalTec).

I have noticed that the voice quality from the program is better with the
"regular" thinkpad sound drivers (i.e. the ones that hog lots of memory)
than with the new patched drivers (which load into extended memory).
