I don't have any answers for you but the exact same thing
happened with mh 755cx. I also noticed the indicator LED's
flickering in a weird way when I plugged in the adapter.
I called IBM and they said something sounded wrong with
the machine so they sent me an Easyserve box. But while
that was happening I managed to try another AC adapter,
which charged the battery properly. So I guess those
adapters are unreliable.
