Not long ago, a member of this list posted a link to www.insight.com re an
inexpensive refurb 4x cd-rom pcmcia. Frustrated by my inability to get
direct cable connection to work (despite help offered by others on the
list) I followed up on that post and bought one. The unit installed easily
and worked fine.

Today, after a week of non-use, when I fired up the TP701c, the cd-rom
drive was out of sight, as in not present. No icon for the d:drive as the
cd-rom appeared in My Computer, as it did before. I tried detecting for new
hardware, and nothing happened.

I then turned everything off, and pulled the pcmcia (adaptec scsi) card.
Next I turned on the cd-rom, rebooted, and plugged the card back in. Once
again, I tried to detect for new hardware; none was found.

Mysteriously, however, the d:drive was recognized, with no need to
re-install drivers.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this happened (or what I might do to
prevent it reoccurring)?

Thanks.
