you may want to play a .wav file to see if its not your headphones.
you can to do this with the 'Media Player' under accessories.
if that doesnt play sound, i'd reinstall mwave DSP. do mwave DSP
for dos first, then mwave DSP for windows 95 next. if you dont have
this on floppy, download them from the ftp site.
this is what i did in a similar situation and it fixed it.
