Thinkpad 750 clock losing track of time at power on

Hope you don't mind me asking but my Thinkpad keeps forgetting the date &
time. Every start up it begins with error and asks for the date & time.
I can't understand why it does this. I went into Norton Utiities DOS ans it
said that the C-Mos battery was operational, I spose it could be lying.
Have you any ideas where to go from here?
