The usual rule of thumb is that you should move to more amps, instead of
less. However, if you keep the battery in this should serve as a buffer and
it should work OK.

My ThinkPad 701 C uses an AC Adapter (P/N 04H6136=FRU04h697) which has
an output of 16 volts, 1.8a.
My new 380ED uses an AC Adapter (P/N 85G6709 = FRU#11J9992)which has
an output of 16v, 2.2a
The plugs into the computer are exactly the same. The 701C has either
an NiCad or NiMh battery; the 380ED has an LiIon.
You probably see the question coming: Can I use the 701C adapter on
the 380ED, despite the slightly lower amperage? What are the
electrical/electronic considerations here? I understand the warranty
considerations should I decide to do so.
