I haven't compared the 13.3" and 14.1" 770 screens side-by-side, but can
tell you that my 770ED 14.1" screen is the brightest TFT active matrix LCD
screen I've ever seen!
I was startled when I first turned on the 770ED after buying it...the
screen looked wonderful, very impressive...great resolution and brightness,
but I didn't realize that the brightness control was actually turned down.
When I maximized the brightness control, I sat back and said "wow"...I've
never seen a brighter (or better looking) TFT display on any
laptop...including the previous three ThinkPads I've owned.
As far as the difference in size between the 13.3" and the 14.1", I think
it makes a big difference depending on the type of applications you run.
As a graphics designer, I never use anything less then a 21"
high-resolution monitor on my desktop and have always felt a bit limited
using any laptop...because of limited screen size, processor power, and
storage capabilities.
My 770ED is the first laptop I've owned which allows me to be really
productive away from my studio system (dual-PII400 with 30Gb on online
storage). With its PII266 processor, 128Mb of ram, 8.1 Gb of disk storage,
internal VST zip drive, and big bright 14.1" screen with fast graphics
controller, I can finally work anywhere and still be productive. For me,
the larger the screen the better...so the 14.1" screen does make a
difference for me. Also, the 770ED's Ultra-Bay allows me to run an extra
battery or 8.1Gb hard drive along with those already in the machine...which
makes this a very powerful production tool for me.
