Hello,
I'm glad to have found this list, I've found a lot of useful info
here since the last few days I've lurked.
I'm about to purchase a TP560x (233Mhz/TFT model with 96MB) _if_ I can
find one at a reputable mail order place (they all seem out of stock).
In the meantime I'm doing my research about the TP560x here and on the
web - after all it won't be a trivial amount of $$ to spend.
I would like to install Linux on one of the 2GB partitions. If anyone
has done this and has comments/suggestions/problems reports! regarding
this, please let me know asap, before I engage in yet another
long-term relationship with my credit card company :-)
I heard there was a problem with the Neomagic chip and XFree, but it
seems that problem has been overcome for free, see:
http://www.mnsinc.com/js/Neomagic.html
http://www.phoneboy.com/pig/howto/neomagic-x.html
My goal is to eventually link my desktop and new laptop. The purpose
would be to mount my desktop's CD drive so that I can install software
(at least Linux) on the TP, and then later exchange/synchronize files
between the two systems. There would be regular, but not heavy duty
data transfers.
I was thinking of using an ethernet connection, but pc cards for the
TP seem expensive compared to the $20-$30 for the desktop. Now I'm
thinking of using PLIP with a parallel Laplink cable. Does this make
sense? Anyone try this? (The latest version of RH Linux has a PLIP
aware boot disk).
Anyway, looking forward to learning more about these little machines.
Cheers,
Esmail
PS: Anyone know of a good cheap place to get memory (I want an
additional 64MB for the TP560x to bring it up to its max 96MB) let
me know. Or for that matter a 560x too.
