i hate to start something, but i have never heard that rough handeling will damage memory chips..
cheap is cheap..
if the stuff they sell is low profile and not stacked then it MAY be ok.. or you MAY be lucky.. or both..
the economics of it are simple..
a good product will just cost more to engineer, design, produce, support, etc. than a cheap product..
in thinkpads the timing can be critical..
for the savings i would personally go with a name brand..
preferably thinkpad proven.. and now that some manufacturers are in trouble, a strong company rather than a weak one.. (or a company with a
lot of debt to service and margins that are considerably less than what they were)...
i don't claim to have all the answers.. i don't even claim to have all the questions..
but for now, i prefer to sell only good stuff..
that excludes simple technology and offshore manufacturers..
if the chip merchant has a good branded part, at a low price, then thats great.. if they are selling unbranded parts, stacked chips or so
on, then the $5 or $10 saved is not a real saving..
