Thanks for the analysis and suggestions from all who replied. I will be
checking with the folks at man-machine.com to see what they might charge
for the repair and see if management thinks it worth the expenditure. So
far, it has not been a good Thinkpad week. First, our new 770ED has a bad
factory RAM dimm (and the $120 PNY card works just fine), then a 600 we
bought has a definite incompatibility with Noteworthy ethernet cards, now
a bad cable a couple of months out of warranty. At least the other two
will be obsolete by the time the warranty expires :-)
