Hi David,
I don't have answers to your other questions, but this one is easy. If you
want to use hibernation, then you need a FAT partition for the hibernation
file. It won't go on an NTFS partition.
I've got a FAT16 partition just large enough for the hibernation file, and
the rest of the drive is NTFS. I booted from a DOS floppy once and ran the
program to create the hibernation file. (I forget the name, but it's the
one that was in the original Win95 autoexec.)
If you don't need to use hibernation, then you don't need a FAT partition
at all.
