yes..

no

it has always been the practice of IBM (and i suppose others) to add a
memory upgrade rather than re-design the planar board when specing more
memory on a machine..

no problem having two different 'size' memory upgrades on any thinkpad
that i can recall..
i just tried that with these new 128meg parts and a 64meg part..

even on the 700 you could use two DRAM cards..
