Yes, it does, but the manual was released when it shipped with NiCD
batteries. I called IBM and asked. The NiMH's for the 701 were released
after printing of the manual.

Yeah, this is annoying as anything. Exspecially when you have to *guess*
how much power you have left. I realise that the meter will fluxuate with
the amount of power you are using.. Just seems that the 701 surges and
pulls all the juice out at one time. I just got off the phone with IBM
support, and they plainly said: 'this particular model of Thinkpad does NOT
support hot-swapping of batteries, unless you first supply an AC source'

Not sure where I read it, but supposidly the 701 was the first to release
the 'smart-NiMH'. The batteries are measured by voltage, not temperature,
like previous laptops(or something along that line). Appearently the others
used temperature to determine how much charge was left. Anyone out there
know any more about this?
