Many people quoted the manual that says, "you will have to take it to IBM
for servicing." But one person referred to the fact that you just have to
short a jumper to bypass the password.

I found it disturbing how (before I even bought my TP) I found the one
manual on the web that explains that only IBM can bypass the BIOS password,
and shortly found the other manual that explains precisely how to bypass
the BIOS password. Not very good security if anyone in the world can
download the manual that explains the trick.

Anyway, see if you can find the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the 385XD
on IBM's site. The one for the 770 explains exactly where the jumper is,
and, frankly, it's extremely easy to get to - it's in a user-serviceable
location, in fact.

I, too, would love to know the results of somebody's hard disk password
experiments.
