Since I'm an idiot as well, I'll give you the two most basic suggestions.
Do you have the CDROM all connected and powered up when you boot the PC?
Did you install the drivers with the CD ROM connected?
When you look under Control Panel/System/Hardware Profiles does anything
appear under CDROM???
Rely on others for greater sophistication...
