Hi,

yesterday I played around with sound driver on my linux-based TP600. It seems
that there are lots of people out ther who don't have sound running on their
TP600s, because the OSS Lite driver distribution doesn't support the TP600's
CS4237b out of the box, only the SB emulation works. So you either spend
money on the commercial version of the OSS package (www.4front-tech.com) or
use the SB emulation mode.

The ALSA programmers group have developed an Alternative Linux Sound
Architecture. Their driver is free and supports the CS4237b directly. You can
download it from

        http://alsa.jcu.cz

Installing instructions for the TP600 are on Raph Levien's page
(http://www.levien.com/tp600.html). It works great and installing is simple.

Be sure to download, the driver (I use 0.2.0pre8), the libraries, and the
utilities (they contain a mixer). Installing was really easy. Although the
archives are source packages and not RPM, you need hardly do more than
"./configure ; make ; make install".

Have a great weekend,

        Alexander
