In the 3 years my Thinkpad was under warranty, I would estimate having
returned it to IBM for repair as many as 20 times. In all instances
except one: IBM received it the morning after it was shipped, repaired
it the same day or the next, and I received it the following day. In
other words, expect to have it back in your possession the second or
third day after you sent it off. I've always been very pleased with
their service, and FedEx's too.
Also, if you want to cut one day off of this routine and if you have a
box in shippable condition that you've saved from previous EZServ
handling, tell the IBM tech support person you don't need to have a
box sent to you. Pack the Thinkpad in your box, take it to a FedEx
shipping counter, write the Case # and EasyServ's Memphis address on
the shipping label, select standard overnight delivery (since EZServ
is next to FedEx in Memphis it still gets delivered early AM), tell
FedEx that the recipient will pay the shipping charge, and off it
goes. I've done this many times, and appreciated both the ability to
recycle a box and to get quicker turnaround on the repair.
