This used to be the case for me too, even here in Hawaii. More recently (last 2 years or so) I've had repeated problems with them.
Once, when they sat a package of mine in Oakland for 2+ days, causing it to miss a Friday flight out (so I didn't get a package
until late Monday, though it had been sent the previous Wednesday), they explicitly told me that it was because I didn't pay the
extra for overnight delivery.
>From Hawaii I assume 8 days for an Easy-Serve repair: one for the repair itself, and the rest for travel (which is often fast on one
side, slow on the other).
One reason I prefer USPS for almost everything these days is that they work on weekends. (Also, if I miss the delivery for some
reason, I can pick it up at the local post office, which is much closer than the local FedEx warehouse.)
