I think I am about to take the laptop plunge and buy a TP600E. I have a
few questions first...thanks for any help.
(a) I want to run 3 OSs on it (98 for occassional fun, NT for some work,
and Linux for my main work). Albert Lee has already given me a couple
of hints on it, but he didn't bother to leave 98 on his 600E.
Has anyone actually done this with all three OSs? Any hints or things
to watch out for? (I have installled Linux a few times before on a
desktop, but I'm no expert. Yes, I know the modem won't work under
Linux.)
(b) I want to buy the biggest RAM chip I can get to fill in the second
slot; I believe the biggest I can get is 128M. Are there any highly
reliable third-party RAM manufacturers that will support the 600E, or
should I be safe and buy from IBM?
(c) ZIP vs LS120: I note that vstech makes "thinkpad-proven" LS120 and Zip
drives for the 600. I need some sort of super floppy. I heard Iomega
has been in trouble .. but that Zips are much more common than LS120s
... but ls120s would mean carrying around one drive instead of two ...
Anyone have a clear thought on this?
(d) I'll need a Linux and NT friendly combo modem/network card? Any
suggestions?
Any opinions greatly appreciated.
