Recent discussions have mentioned the difference between the
"business" and "personal/non-business" models of ThinkPads.
I really cannot think of the difference (except for exaggerated
prices and max memory) between the various models. For example,
I recently purchased a TP380Z (PII-300, 13.3" TFT, 96MB, 4.3GB)
and then later found out that no on-site, next day service was
available from IBM for this model. My choice was determined to
be a non-business model. On the other hand, there are many other
3xx and 7xx series that are considered "business models" and
therefore are eligible for next day, on-site service.
<sigh>
The reason I purchased the 380Z was that it was the best value
for a 300MHz system that came factory loaded with NT and also
supported OS/2. Since I didn't have any need for more than 96MB
of memory, I saw no need to purchase one of the more expensive
7xx series (or even a 600 series) that could support 200+MB if
desired.
Can anybody explain the difference between "business" and other
"non-business" models from an IBM standpoint?
