At least Sony seems to be trying to stay the course this time. Their early attempts to break into the home computer business (e.g.,
around 1980, and again a few years later) followed the pattern: (a) enter the market; (b) fail to instantly become the #1 player;
then (c) completely abandon the market (orphaning all their customers) in their disgust at (b).
