The EasyServ Plus extended warranty for years 4 & 5 costs exactly the
same for the TP 560 as for the TP 770 -- $99 per year. This implies that
IBM expects the service costs for the two types of machines to be similar
and contradicts the conjecture that the TP 560 is meant to be less
reliable by design.
But it seems pointless to speculate about something for which actual
data is available. Both machines have been on the market long enough
for IBM to have accumulated breakdown frequency and repair information.
Would anyone out there who works for IBM care to post EasyServ's
experience with these machines?
Based on my own experience with my TP 560X, which I've carted all over
the world by plane, train, bus, light rail, subway, car, and on foot,
the TP 560X has proved to be as reliable as any portable computer I've
ever owned, and this includes Toshibas, Compaqs, and "top of the line"
Thinkpads.
