Well, I thought I'd update everyone with my experience so far with my
Thinkpad 600E going back for service (needs a new TFT panel... old one
had failing pixels that are increasing in number).
I got the box from IBM today, and I have to say... they must have
spent a year designing it. You get a self-assemble box which when
complete, suspends the laptop between two sheets of film. Very
impressive. As suggested by members on the list, I yanked the HD,
battery, bezel, the 32mb of memory that came extra, and just shipped
the bare unit.
I filled out the form completely, including all my necessary contact
information. I marked off the screen with paper reinforcements,
showing the bad pixels, and included post-it notes next to each
reinforcement indicating the type of bad pixel they are looking for.
A total of 9 (4 green, 1 blue, 4-6 dimming out it turns out).
It's now in the hands of Airborne. I really hope that I get my
machine back by Friday. I will update you guys when I get it back.
I'm still pretty bent out of shape that I had to do it at all, but if
EZ Serve delivers on time, I'm not going to complain anymore... I
suppose one of the reasons I bought a Thinkpad was because of the
'legendary' support.
