You are one lucky dude! The turnaround was unusually good, I think. I've
had that experience of a one day turnaround, but not on my recent EZServe
experience (Spring 1998).

Your presentation of the bad pixels was a great idea. I sent my 770 in for
repair some time ago and tried to get them to look at an odd spot I have on
my screen. I described the problem and location, but they did not repair or
replace the screen. They fixed the other problems, though, and gave me a
new trackpoint button as well.

Subject: 600E back with ZERO bad pixels!

I am going to buy Thinkpads for the rest of my life. I'm in love. :)

My Thinkpad 600E came back about 10 min ago. I reinstalled my hard
drive, and all the things I took out of the system prior to shipping
to EZServe. They replaced the LCD, and gave me a system BIOS update.
The TFT has absolutely NO BAD PIXELS AT ALL. I am ecstatic.

Here's what I learned from this experience:

a) Always strip out your system as much as possible. It didn't phase
them a single bit that I did this, and I was skeptical at first, but I
think I understand why.

b) Spend the time to completely indicate your problem. In my case,
with bad pixels, I marked off the pixels with reinforcements, and put
post-it note annotations next to each one.

c) Before you ship, write down the tracking number on the Airbill.
This is for your peace of mind... you can track it to death on
Airborne's web site, and know exactly when they get it.

c) Don't call the Memphis repair center until after 12:00p Eastern
(11:00a in Memphis). They don't key in all the entries until then,
and won't be able to accurately tell you whether they even got your
system until then.

c) Call back at around 4:00p-5:00p eastern. You can try before then,
but chances are you'll be disappointed when they say "we received your
unit but it hasn't seen a technician yet". Just relax.

d) The Thinkpad list is most excellent... the advice here has been
fantastic, and the end result is that I now have a perfect Thinkpad.

Well, thanks again to all!
