I just saw this post in the laptop newsgroup. Don't know about the accuracy,
so I wanted to know what others might have heard (hope this isn't old news):

"I can confirm that IBM has stopped production and sales of the 1410
and 1450 laptops. The fact that IBM has dropped the 1400 series so
quickly makes me very nervous! I have requested a return authorization
and will probably return it. Shame it is a very nice machine. "

I understand that PC life cycles are very short, but if I am not mistaken
these units have only been on sale for no more than two months. I have also
heard that these units are basically rebadged Acer models with different
casings and markings. Might there have been a reliability problem? Or just
outdated that quickly?

On another note, the recent price drop on the 770ED to $2699 has got me
itching again! I think I have a buyer for my almost 1 year old 770 1AU with
64MB and DVD drive. If it works out, I should be able to step up to the ED
for only $200. Hey, I know its high for a used unit, but paying almost $6k
for a laptop and getting less than 50% of the price back in a year in almost
unbearable (even though I know this is how it is)!

Has anyone that has used an earlier 770 and one of the newer PII models
noticed that much difference in performance?

Thanks-

Eric Giles
