As previous postings have shown I am not the world's most competent
computer user, nor the one most familiar with OS/2 warp 4 (Fixpack
9). I think that I have surpassed myself by breaking the PCMCIA
56kbs which came with my Thinkpad 385XD while trying to upgrade it to
V90 from X2. When I test the modem by entering Echo ATDT>Com2
nothing happens - the cursor just keeps flickering, and I have to
close the window to regain control. Does this mean what I think it
means; that the modem is broken?
Please bear with me as I outline the sequence of actions which led to
this event
I Using the OS/2 Thinkpad utilities I enabled the serial port, and
set it to com1.
2 I added (2,0f8,3) to the device=d:\os2\boot\com.sys line in
config.sys, and then rebooted.
2 I disabled hibernation and closed down the screen saver.
3 I copied v9ibm556.exe to a directory on my hard drive, and ran it
>from an OS/2 window using the same path. The screen showed com3 and
com4 inactive, and the next line showed 'resetting modem'. But it
then sat that way for more than an hour, doing nothing, so I closed
the window.
The PC Card director shows that a modem card is in slot 1 and is
active. When I reboot I get a beep at the onset, and a beep after
boot manager has done its thing.
I did not have the modem working before this effort, so I don't know
if I have done something bad here, or just not set the modem up
properly.
Can anyone please help?
