I just bought a 770ED which came standard with Win95 and I reformatted and
did a new install of Win98. Everything worked perfectly.....until I later
discovered that my floppy drive stopped working correctly. When I stick a
brand new preformatted 3.5 disk into my floppy...Win98 tells me that the
disk is not formatted...and if I want to format. If I choose yes....Win98
ends up telling me that it cannot format the disk because it is either
locked or defective. Everyone one of these disks work on other computers
though.

At first I thought that maybe my floppy drive was defective....but I tried
another identical drive which resulted in the same problem. The really
funny thing is Win98 sees the drive as functioning fine and if I exit into
DOS.....I can access the disks fine.....so Win98 is definitely the culprit
here. I even reformatted my hard disk a 2nd time and for an entire
day....my floppy drive has worked perfectly....until now. The exact same
problem has reoccurred.....and I don't have any clue as to why. I haven't
installed anything new since the last time I used my floppy.

Dejanews shows that a number of other people have encountered the same
problem before...but no solutions. So has anyone on this list experienced
anything like this on their thinkpad? and if so....what is the solution.
Thanks.
