No, I'm sorry, but that isn't sound advice. Those drivers won't support
Win98. The only drivers suitable are the ones IBM labeled version 1.11.
They are still available on IBM's FTP site. The file name is Vftpdw95.exe.
But, all of this misses the point. IBM's technical support has gotten so
unreliable that I fear they cannot be trusted for anything anymore. I
studied those drivers dated 12/28/98 and I swear to you that they DO NOT
support the 770/E/ED family. Not at all. They will work only with the
9397DVD chip which is different than the 9397 chip inside the 770/E/ED. I
cannot even begin to believe this rediculous behavior on IBM's part because
it comes after I (and, presumably, others) alerted IBM to the fact that the
version 1.12 drivers posted previously did not support the 770/E/ED. They
pulled them off of their web site (but they're still hanging around on their
FTP site for some poor unsuspecting soul). You'd think that the next
version they posted would work but, alas, they're not even close. This is a
serious and very disturbing error. And, it comes right on the heels of the
version 1.27 BIOS slip up where the links for that actually lead to the
TP600 BIOS files. Not good!
