As I had mentioned before, it's not the job of the organization that receives
the unit to value the donation.
What you are asking for is specifically excluded by IRS regulations. Any 501
(c) (3) non-profit could lose their status if they were to comply with your
request.
It is YOUR job to determine the value the unit may have based on your
individual situation (business owned, personally owned?) and to be able to
document this value if the need should arise. I suggest a search of the eBay
completed auctions by maker and type to document what similar units are
selling for. Print out a couple of weeks worth and file them in with your tax
records. This meets the requirement for documentation mentioned above.
We would be very happy to receive this unit and would immediately send you
a letter of acceptance identifying it right down to the serial numbers, but we
will not make any statement as to the value of the unit. We can't.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Warm regards,
James
