I'm having an odd problem when my ThinkPad 765D is plugged into external power -- sometimes it decides there is no external power.
I have checked my AC adapter, the cable that feeds it AC power from the outlet, the surge suppressor, and several outlets all known to be working. No problems there. It seems the problem is in the ThinkPad itself.
When I have my ThinkPad plugged in and have the display open, usually it uses external power without trouble. But, if I close the ThinkPad while plugged in, it sometimes refuses to belive it's plugged in anymore. If turned on, it will drain the batteries. If in suspend mode, it uses external power and decreases its estimate of battery life as if the batter is in use (a fully charged batter starts at 13 to 15 days, and 10 hours later the ThinkPad says it'll last 22 more hours, but the battery is still fully charged).
The only way to get around the problem seems to be to leave the ThinkPad unplugged for a few hours and try again. Unplugging it and immediately plugging it in again doesn't work. Even 10 minutes doesn't help. I've only tried this with charged batteries installed.
The problem is intermittent, but very annoying since I do most of my work and computer based fun on it. It has happend twice almost within a week.
Has anyone else had similar troubles?
