Many thanks to all that have replyed to my predicament.
A bit for information for you all...
The drive is not an IBM part, it is not in a caddy but I presume that the
cable is correct as I have had the drive working once or twice, indeed I
have managed to install some software on it, but when I restarted the
machine it could no longer see the drive.
The drive is a Toshiba MK2326FC for which I have obtained the spec and
jumper info. I have no information as to whether the thinkpad uses
Master/Slave or Cable select HDD's - perhaps someone knows?
The main problem is that at startup when the machine checks for installed
devices it doesn't see the HDD. I am relatively convinced that it is a
Master/Slave or Cable select problem - but it could be the thinkpad itself -
I don't know.
