I swear by (not *at*) LapLink. I have version 7.5, but I think a recent
upgrade came out--but I'm happy with what I've got, so I have no desire to
upgrade.

My preferred method is by Ethernet (LapLink works over TCP/IP *and* IPX
protocols), and I happen to have 2 Ethernet cards to do it with from laptop
to laptop, else I could use my desktop machine as intermediary. But if you
get the appropriate version of Laplink, you'll get cables with it to go by
parallel port (*much* slower). You could probably also do it by USB (I
think the newer version supports that), assuming your current/old TP has a
USB port.

But...problem: It works to transfer all your data & whatnot, but
transferring your OS and applications is somewhat more problematic, since
registry entries & etc. have to be transferred to. In many cases you can
export & import the appropriate registry keys, but since so many
applications also install additional files in the Win or System
directories, it's usually a lot easier to just stick the install CD into
the new machine and do a quick install. With 20X and higher CD drives
these days, its very quick to do so anyway--back when 2x and 4x was the
norm, I'd have argued that complete re-installs were questionable if you
were quick with the other method, but now...just re-install. You'll be
happier with the ease *and* the speed.

It ain't too bad...I've done it many times. :-)
