Hello,

It sounds like you are not connecting using a 56k protocol but using
V.34
protocol (33.6k). Sounds like you need to check a few things.

Does you ISP support V.90 (or the other 56k protocol [X2 or K56Flex] in
the
modem)?

Some modems need parameters in the init string to enable 56K.

There are two sites with information. One is http://www.56k.com and
I cannot think of the other URL but it is the "56K = V.Unreliable" Web
Page. Both give good information on 56k and the problems you can
have with it. I was able to set up the connect string on my modem
(Rockwell-based) to give protocol and speed information in the connect
string.
