No, I meant to say that they chose that configuration so they could provide
*both* capabilities with a single set of hardware.

One of the big reasons I went with a combo card (even though the Ethernet is
dongle, rather than X-Jack) is because the combo card uses a *single* IRQ for
both capabilities, and I find that pretty much all modern Windows systems are
really IRQ constrained. In fact, my desktop system has an unusable serial port
on it right now (that I could *really* make good use of), just because I am
out of free IRQs.
The other reason, of course, is that I still have a slot available. Naturally,
to use it, I'll probably have to give up IR or something to get an IRQ for it.
