2 Questions about thinkpad 600 and windows NT and 98 comparaison

Hello,

First may I present myself, I am a French speaking researcher in
Neuroscience. I bought an TP 600 with 96 MB RAM 6 months ago along with a
port replicator station.
I use my machine essentially for text processing (Winword) data analysis
(Labview and Pclamp) and Internet browsing trough a dedicated line.

Now I have a couple of questions concerning the TP 600. I am considering
installing Windows NT 4.0 on my machine essentially for robustness purpose.
My 2 main questions are

What about the speed compared to Windows 98
More importantly, what about the battery use in both systems ? With 98 I
could easily use my computer for 2h 30.
I have access to all the drivers and patches from IBM site.
