Hi All,
It came to my attention a few weeks ago that on most (all?) of our
ThinkPads, when attempting to use the "Video Out" port while *also* viewing
the screen on the laptop's TFT, there's a glitch.
That is, my TP 600 is 1024x768. If I reduce the resolution to 800x600,
and have the signal go solely to an external device (monitor/projector) and
*not* shown on the laptop's TFT, then the signal will indeed be 800x600.
However, if I choose to show the image on *both* my laptop TFT *and* the
external device, the external device is actually getting a 1024x768 (XGA)
signal, rather than the 800x600 (SVGA) signal that I have set.
Frankly, I think that's a stupid bug.
My question, for those of you with 700-series Thinkpads that are capable
of 1280x1024 resolution, do you know if you suffer from the same problem?
That is, if you reduce your resolution to XGA or perhaps SVGA, and show on
both your laptop TFT *and* an external device, is the external device
getting the proper signal, or is it getting force-fed a full 1280x1024,
even if you have it set to a lower resolution?
This is rather important to me because I use my TP 600 travel & do
presentations. I really need to be able to see both my laptop screen as
well as the projected image, so my problem is when I run across a projector
that doesn't like getting a 1024x768 signal, I have to shut off my laptop
TFT, and that poses a problem, as I'm often not in a position to view the
projected image & work off of it.
I recently acquired a projector of my own, so I can be sure I don't have
trouble projecting a true 1024x768 signal. BUT...and here's my
worry...what if I someday move up to a newer ThinkPad that has a 1280x1024
resolution screen, and it has the same problem the current ThinkPads have?
The projector I got won't handle or even compress an SXGA image down to
XGA, so my projector will essentially be worthless to me if I had such a
ThinkPad.
Anyone want to tell me how their SXGA screen behaves?
