Stuck pixels - tons of them?

Has anybody else had the experience of having literally hundreds of stuck
pixels in regions of their LCD? My TP600 (41U, 13.3" active matrix) has
developed stuck pixels of every color on the middle portion of the screen,
spanning an area of about 10 square centimeters. You don't see them on a
white background, obviously, but with a black background, they are visible
(though scattered and not that prominent until one moves a dark image on the
screen). I was thinking maybe it could be attributed to use, but while I do
use the laptop quite a lot (in most of my classes, for example, as well as
at home), I have automatic screen shutoff at 3 minutes of inactivity. So
the actual time that the LCD has been on isn't that high.

I've tried wiping the screen with a damp lens cloth, with no effect on those
pixels. Slight pressure to the screen (either in front or behind) doesn't
change them either. I know I checked the LCD thoroughly (including
full-screen black and color checks) when I first got the machine, and it
certainly didn't have all those stuck pixels back in August 1998.
