Hello Greg,
hoping this doesn't sound too simplistic, I'll offer something to try....
I have several 701's that have very "stubborn" power switches.
Sometimes I literally have to hold the 701 on end and slide the switch
over with "extreme" force to get the unit to start up. Takes a lot of effort,
and even hurts my fingers sometimes to turn the darned thing on...
So, my simplistic suggestion is simply to be sure that the switch isn't
just "sticky"...
Of course, I could be totally off-base and your friend's 701 could be used up...
but I hope the switch is simply stubborn...
Hope this helps...

Subject: 701CS seems dead...
Hello All,
A client of mine has a TP 701CS. She complained that it wasn't starting up,
and when I looked at it, it indeed did not respond to the power switch. I
tested the AC adapter with a meter, and it looks like it's cranking out the
requisite voltage. I know that the battery has been dead for some time, and
that she has been using it exclusively with the adapter. I'm wondering if
this behavior has been seen before by anyone here who might know what this
could be. I was told that it hadn't suffered any damage (falls, blows), but
you never know...
If anyone can offer anything, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Greg L.
