My manual of the 701 tells me that you can leave the battery in. For
all I know this is _not_ true! If you do not need the battery, you
should fully charge it and place it on a shelf.
Reasons:
a) memory effect.
b) It seems that the 701 counts how many times the battery was
loaded. Once a certain count is reached (stored on a chip inside
the battery), it will refuse to work with that battery, no matter
if it's still good or not.

You certainly should, due to a). Note, however, that you can not run
down the battery to 0% as long as it is inside the TP (which will
switch of at around 10%-20%, I guess).

Put it on a shelf, loaded. Reload before using.
