My feeling is that for the case of a laptop, getting the extended
service warrenty is a useful thing to do. Looking over the prices
of the various parts, one good disaster can set you back more than
$300, wiping out the 'savings' of not having a warrenty, even if
you can do all the hardware work yourself. I always recommend it
when one of my users asks about getting a laptop.

As far as your machine being able to do the tasks needed in the
future, it likely can, but will be pitifully slow, given the ever
increasing corpulance of Micros##t software.
