I have a 755c dx4/75 with a NiMH battery that recently stopped working.
The computer recognizes it when I insert it, and the battery and charge
light initially turn green. But after a few seconds the charge light goes
out and the battery light turns orange. Both the dos and windows fuel
programs, and the win95 power status indicate the battery has 0% charge,
and any attempts to discharge it and start recharging fail.
I usually use the computer plugged in at my desk, so I thought that it
would be a good idea to remove the battery and turn it off. I later read
that turning batteries on and off can ruin them, so I realize that I may
have caused this failure.
But I suspect that the problem might be larger than a bad battery, because
the floppy drive failed at about the same time, though I can't be sure if
they were related because I rarely use the floppy. And the computer
occasionally charges the battery, only to report it as dead a day or so
later (even though the win95 power status reports near 100% capacity).
I can replace these parts, but is it possible to find out if my motherboard
is bad first?
Thanks for any advice.
