Question on non-IBM memory upgrade for I-series

But since the discussion referred to 770:s and as I am a newbie I would like
to ask if there is any reason why the above would not apply to an I-series?

Also, is the warranty for the machine I bought (before upgrading it myself)
affected in any way by me putting non-IBM memory in the machine? What
triggers my question is the below (which I don't quite understand)
