Jon,
The more I think about it the more I am leaning toward what I wrote earlier.
I think it has to do with the way your
hard drive is currently partitioned. Since the CD, DVD and floppy all work
but not with the Recovery CD it is not finding the C: partition where it
expects it.
Bill may be right about initializing the system but I am a little sceptical
as that has more to do with making sure that irq's are assigned and since
the system is going into a loop with the recovery CD it implies that the
system is actually reading the CD, else it would just boot windows..
As for problems with the DVD. The error you are receiving "failed to perform
stream creation VPM" sounds like you have the latest video drivers
installed. You will need to revert to the previous version for dvd to play.
As for the playback, I can say that I see no difference between the quality
on the 770 (with hardware decoder) vs a standalone dvd player.
