The built-in Lucent WinModem in my 570 no longer wakes up from hibernation.
Running settings->controlpanel->modems->diagnostics reports "port in use."
It works fine after suspend. Rebooting cures the problem. The problem
seems to have started a few days ago, when I decided to add NT4 to a spare
partition, but that could be just a coincidence. I tried reinstalling the
driver software, which did not help.
Shutdown->shutdown restarts, rather than shutting down. I'm running
Win98SE, btw.
Any suggestions?
Also, the keyboard is getting rather warm after a number of hours of use.
I'm used to having the bottom of the notebook getting hot, but not the
keyboard. Specifically, heat is rising from the spaces between the keys.
The bottom is hot and I guess heat rises.
The right inch or two of the screen is getting rather warm, especially the
outside of the case behind the screen. The rest of the screen/case is cool.
Is this normal? Something to worry about? I didn't notice either of these
warming trends in the first few days of ownership, but can't swear that
they weren't there.
On the good news side, re-testing reveals that the Travelstar 10Gt is no
louder than the 4gb drive (4GN?) that came with the notebook. The larger
drive makes a higher frequency sound, though.
