I checked out the models in the Withdrawn Thinkpads PDF file.
The 2635 EAU is listed as a Thinkpad 380XD model. It uses a Pentium II
233/66.
It is listed as a 12.1 inch HPA color SVGA of either 640x480 or 800x 600.
The 2635 FAU is the 12.1 inch TFT version.
Both models where available in the same timeframe (Late Summer 1998).
Comparing the two systems:
LEU vs. EAU
Display TFT vs. HPA.
Chipset Intel 430TX vs Intel 440BX
The Cardbus controller, sound chip, and everything else seems to be the
same.
I do not know if there are motherboard differences between using a HPA and a
TFT
display.
If you restored your old operating system on the machine then that may be
where
the problem is. I have systems that use the TX and BX chip sets. If I
remember correctly
the APM hardware is part of the Intel Chipset. For Windows 95 I had to
install a file from
the intel web site that had the proper drivers for the chipset. Windows 98
should have the
drivers. I would check in the hardware manager tab of system in the control
panel for
the drivers. They should be listed under System Devices and there should be
several
the have 440BX in the name (or at least Intel). As I remember the devices
should be
the PCI CPU bridge, PCI to ISA bridge, and APM.
