AND, the buffer might be filled up, thus any further keypress is converted to a
beep...

could be caused by some misbehaved app soaking up all cpu time and thus the keyboard
buffes fills up with unprocessed characters...

or, in the words of that great computer engineer Spike Jones, when the frammis cam
intersects the reticulated copperoptus, all hell gunna break loose.. :-)
