i read the responses to your question, and i really have little to add..
these guys who pop up with quick answers show the power and breadth of the
knowledge available online in general and on this list specifically...
my only addition is that my method of backup is over a LAN, here in the
house..
many images of critical stuff spinning aimlessly waiting the time to copy
it to a CDR or CDRW..
AND, just so you don't get the wrong impression, i do my backups regularly,
every 5 or 10 years.. :-)
