This is a pointing device error when the Trackpoint II is enabled.
The maintenance manual says to reseat the Trackpoint II cable at the
interposer card, then to try a new keyboard, then a new external mouse
and finally the system board. The TP II cable is the left-most of the
three you'll see after taking the top cover (above the keyboard, between
it and the hinge for opening up the notebook) off. These are latching
connectors (just to the right and left) - the latches must be released
to reseat the cables...
